How I started writing…

Shelly Sood is a mindfulness, meditation, breathwork practitioner, and founding partner at GIOSTAR Chicago, the pioneer in regenerative medicine. She focuses her practices on holistic healing and embraces the mind body connection, rather than the sum of its parts. She has appeared on dozens of podcast interviews and has spoken at schools and corporations, addressing the importance of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being to reach homeostasis from within.

Holistic healing came into Shelly’s life when her husband suffered from an undiagnosed mental illness for more than two decades. Leading to massive emotional, financial, and mental devastation (including suicidal behaviors and divorce proceedings), Shelly helped save her husband’s life, their family, and their marriage. After helping her husband rebuild his life, Shelly discovered that the fulfillment gained from diminishing the pain of others is like nothing else and launched her healthcare company, GIOSTAR Chicago.

After Shelly's best friend and lawyers encouraged her to document all the events that transpired during her divorce, she confronted her inner demons and embarked on the journey of writing her memoir, Untethered, as a cathartic healing process. Untethered is a raw and candid dual memoir about trusting oneself more than anyone else. It tells the story of a South Asian wife, mother, and entrepreneur who breaks free from generational trauma, gender roles, cultural expectations, and mental health stigmas. This newfound liberation not only allows her to save her husband's life but also empowers her to reclaim her own life and eventually establish a successful healthcare company. Shelly has completed writing Untethered and is aiming for its release in early 2025.

Shelly is writing a self-help memoir in memory of her beloved late father - specifically his long incredible journey as a surgeon whose deeply embedded trauma and mindset impacted his physical being as he developed Parkinson's disease over the years. He cheated death several times, including a gas fire explosion, a failed brain surgery, multiple seizures, a drowning (resuscitation), and finally pneumonia.

His mindset played a crucial role in not only his will to live, but his demise and final days. It is in the last few months of his life that Shelly’s father, a South Asian surgeon trained in traditional healthcare, gained a new lease on life through the exploration of holistic healing modalities and occurrence of supernatural phenomenons.

The self-help memoir is also a candid exploration of the trials and tribulations of the US healthcare system and delves into the importance of owning your health through traditional and holistic healing modalities. Shelly explores the mind-body connection and the infinite power of the mind, breath, and life force energy from a scientific and spiritual approach, which offers readers a nuanced perspective into whole health (physical, mental, and spiritual) and its importance in healthcare today.

Shelly’s mission in life is to create change in this world by spearheading her teachings globally and positively impacting the lives of millions of people through her self-help book series, upcoming memoirs, movies, podcast, and company offerings.

Shelly currently lives in Los Angeles and San Diego, California with her husband, three children (Aliya, Shaun, and Evan), and King Charles Cavalier Spaniel (Elliot).
